Smoking Policy

  HUD mandates smoke-free public housing

Smoking is prohibited in and around public housing.  Smokers must be 25 feet away from the property when smoking.

It’s still illegal to grow, possess, and consume cannabis in rental housing subsidized by the federal government, even for residents who participate in the medical marijuana program. Tarrytown Housing is required to enforce the federal rules against pot use in federally assisted housing, including public and Section 8 housing, in states that have legalized cannabis.

The term “smoking” means inhaling, exhaling, breathing, carrying, vaping, or possessing any lighted cigar, cigarette, pipe, other tobacco product or similar lighted product in any manner or in any form.
